Steve Horowitz
Tax Practitioner
Steve Horowitz focuses his practice on taxation, civil and criminal IRS and North Carolina tax controversy and tax litigation, audit examinations, appeals, and tax collection matters; tax planning for corporations, partnerships, individuals, estates and trusts, general business, and contract matters. Steve graduated with a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Florida and received his J.D. degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He earned his Masters in Taxation Law from New York University.
Steve has 56 years of experience as a Tax Practitioner. He began his career as a trial attorney with the Office of District Counsel Internal Revenue Service in Greensboro, North Carolina. Steve has served as a Tax Practitioner and trial attorney representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service, the North Carolina Department of Revenue, the United States Tax Court, and the Federal District Courts of North Carolina. He is a frequent speaker and discussion leader at tax symposiums, seminars, and meetings for C.P.A.’s and attorneys in North Carolina and other states as well as for local civic groups. Steve is the author of the article “Negotiating Strategies for Effectively Settling Civil Tax Controversies with the Internal Revenue Service.”
Steve is licensed to practice in North Carolina, Florida, the United States Tax Court and US District Courts for the Western, Middle and Eastern Districts of North Carolina. Steve is a member of the American Bar Association of Taxation Committee on Administrative Practice, Southeastern Region IRS Tax Liaison Committee, North Carolina and Florida Bar Tax Section, a Fellow in the American College of Tax Counsel. He has served as Chairman of the North Carolina Bar Tax Section. Steve is on the University of North Carolina Tax Institute’s Planning Committee for the Annual Tax Seminar.

Hobbies and Interest:
Besides practicing law Steve treasures spending time with his Wife Maxine, their five children, twelve grandchildren, and their adorable golden retriever Shelly. He is sweetly referred to as “Papa Gator” by his family. Steve enjoys watching and attending college and professional sports, especially the Florida Gators. In his spare time, he enjoys reading history or mystery novels. Steve and his wife Maxine also appreciate spending time with their many longtime friends and take the opportunity to travel to Europe, as well as taking excursions to the Mediterranean Sea and Baltic Sea. More locally Steve enjoys the beach and takes time to indulge in the beach weather in North Carolina as well as Hilton Head in South Carolina and Florida beaches.
